Command And Conquer 3
Install
Stick the Command and Conquer 3 DVD in to your PC, and copy everything from that into a directory on your hard drive (NOTE: Once installed, you do not need to keep this directory).
Open Lutris
Click the 3 dots to the top right. Select ‘Add games’.
Choose “Install a Windows game from an executable”
Choose a name, with an Installer preset OS
Choose a directory to install to. Ideally to a dedicated games directory. Make sure you create a sub directory for the game.
Click ‘Continue’.
Select the setup.exe for the game from the directory you copied the install files to.
Install game as per Windows box that appears
Once installed, select the game and click on the arrow next to ‘Play’ at the bottom.
Select configure. Select the ‘Game Options’ tab.
Change the executable file to point to i.e. INSTALL_DIRECTORY/pfx/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Electronic Arts/Command & Conquer 3/CNC3.exe
Select the ‘Runner options’ tab.
Change the Wine version to ‘ge-proton’, if it’s not already.
Click ‘Play’
Patching
If you have the above working, you can now patch CnC3 to the latest version.
We will need to perform this from inside the wine instance.
Click the wine icon at the bottom and select ‘Open wine console’
In the console that opens, type ‘explorer.exe’.
In the file manager that appears, find the patch file and double click. It should now perform the patch.
No CD
This is a hell of a lot easier than patching, as all you need to do is replace an exe file. This can be done in your standard Linux file manager.
Patch Command and Conquer 3
Copy the no cd version of cnc3ep1.dat to the INSTALL_DIRECTORY/pfx/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Electronic Arts/Command & Conquer 3/RetailExe/1.9 directory (make a backup of the old one, if you wish).
All Set!
You’re all set. You should be all set to play Command and Conquer 3 from within Linux., all patched and without the DVD needing to be in the drive. Read on, if you also want to install Kane’s Wrath.
